The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Director Force Development, Colonel Aseri Rokoura, along with other senior RFMF officers, was honoured to join the Acting Permanent Secretary for Defence and Veterans Affairs, Ms. Sainitiki Ravuso, in welcoming Joint Secretary Vishwesh Negi from the Indian Ministry of Defence for the inaugural Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting, held at the Ministry of Defence in Suva on Friday, 18th July 2025. This significant milestone reflects Fiji’s ongoing commitment to strengthening defence cooperation with India.
The RFMF recognises that this engagement builds upon the 2017 Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation between the two nations. It underscores the importance of continued collaboration in key areas, including humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR), peacekeeping operations, and strategic defence dialogue.
This inaugural JWG is a crucial step in advancing mutual defence objectives and fostering closer cooperation between Fiji and India in support of regional and global security. Fiji looks forward to further dialogue and practical cooperation in the years ahead.
The Indian delegation visited Blackrock Camp, Stanley Brown Base, and the MESC prior to the Joint Working Group meeting.
