Fifty-three members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Engineers Regiment comprising forty-seven males and six females, graduated today from the 1/24 Trade Training School Course at Nabuni Camp in Nabua.
The Australian Defence Force Attachรฉ to Fiji, Colonel (Col) Henry Stimson, was the chief guest for the graduation ceremony.
In his address, Col Stimson praised the graduates for their courage, perseverance, and dedication throughout the year-long program, which began on 5 August 2024. The course provided applied training in woodworking, joinery, and carpentry and, for the first time, included block-laying skills.
โ€œThe certificates you will receive are so much more than a piece of paper,โ€ Col Stimson said.
โ€œThey represent your individual courage and commitment, the capability you are now able to deliver as tradespeople, and a career milestone from which you can create many more opportunities into the futureโ€
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by both the trainees and the instructors, commending the collaborative efforts of the Engineers Regiment and the Fiji National University (FNU) in delivering the program.
Col Stimson highlighted that the new graduates will play a vital role in strengthening Fijiโ€™s infrastructure and supporting national resilience.
โ€œAs qualified carpenters, you are trusted by the nation to apply your trade in a safe and responsible manner. The RFMFโ€™s commitment to nation building brings much benefit across Fiji. You are now a key contributor to this endeavor.
Whether in community infrastructure projects or humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations,โ€ Col Stimson stated.
He reminded the graduates that this is only the start of their journey, urging them to use their skills responsibly, stay creative, and commit to lifelong learning.
This graduation marks the culmination of a program that traces its origins to 2nd August, 1974, when the Trade Training School was first established to develop skilled tradesmen within the RFMF.
Col Stimson concluded by congratulating the graduates and encouraging them to use their skills for the benefit of their families, communities, and the nation.
