After a week at the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development in Nadave the participants of the first ever Diploma in Vanua Leadership Course today graduate from this leadership course.
Over the past week, the participants, made up of 28 traditional chiefs and leaders from the 14 provinces of Fiji, learned and enhanced their teamwork skills, building trust, what it is to be a functional leader, making good judgment and decisions, and how to develop a Leadership Development Plan, to name a few.
Chief Guest and Veiliutaki Framework Senior Facilitator Major (Maj) Moses Morris officiated the closing ceremony of the program.
In his official address, Maj Morris highlighted the core focus areas of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ leadership course, emphasizing the development of personal and professional capabilities essential for effective leadership.
โ€œThe course emphasizes being self-aware, managing oneself, developing oneself, and demonstrating character; it involves recognizing oneโ€™s emotions, values, and assumptions, regulating emotions and behaviours, committing to continuous growth, and acting with integrity.โ€
Maj Morris also encouraged the young and future chiefs and leaders of our beloved nation to keep challenging themselves, stay curious, and lead with empathy and courage. โ€œAs you move forward, think about the impact you want to have on your villages, communities, schools, and the world. Whether youโ€™re leading projects, inspiring friends, or simply being a role model, your actions matter.โ€
Speaking on behalf of the Commander of the RFMF, the Commandant of the Officers Training Centre, and all serving men and women, Maj Morris stated, โ€œI am confident that the leaders youโ€™ve begun to become will make a positive difference wherever you go. Keep leading, keep growing, and never underestimate the power you have to make changes. Change is alwaysโ€”and the only constant.โ€
