The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Inter-Unit Drill Competition was held today, 12 September 2025, at the 3rd Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR) Drill Square, Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua.
The RFMF Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Sapenafa Motufaga, delivered the closing remarks, commending the participants for their turnout and effort throughout the competition. He reminded them of the purpose of drill in military life.
β€œThe aim of drill is to produce a soldier who is alert and obedient and forms the basis of teamwork,” Brig-Gen Motufaga said.
β€œAlertness, obedience, and teamwork contribute towards military discipline, pride in your dress, and pride in your unit. Drill is part of our lives as soldiers; today we witness the drill in this drill square.”
He emphasised the importance of self-discipline and teamwork as the foundation of drill, highlighting how these qualities reflect both individual and unit standards.
β€œFirstly, in drill we need self-discipline; as an individual, you need to improve your standard. Secondly is teamwork, which is a collective. Today, you have shown the standard of alertness, obedience in the drill square, and teamwork. Now you can see your standards as an individual and the standard of your unit,” Brig-Gen Motufaga added.
In closing, Brig-Gen Motufaga acknowledged and thanked the Force Sergeant Major (FSM), WO1 Joeli Rabuli; the Land Force Sergeant Major (LFSM), WO1 Sireli Qiolele; and the Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) of the participating units for planning and coordinating this year’s drill competition.
