The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) marked a significant milestone in its longstanding relationship with the People’s Republic of China with the official launch of the RFMF–China Alumni Association, a platform dedicated to recognising RFMF personnel who have undertaken professional military education, training, and academic studies in China.

The event was jointly officiated by China’s Chargé d’Affaires and Minister Counsellor, Mr. Wang, and Deputy Commander RFMF, Commodore Humphrey Tawake, reflecting the shared commitment to strengthening educational and professional cooperation between the two institutions.

In his remarks, Commodore Tawake highlighted the importance of academic growth and international exposure for the modern Fijian military. He emphasised that the RFMF–China Alumni Association will serve not only as a forum for collaboration and professional networking but also as a source of institutional knowledge that contributes to the development of a more capable, informed, and globally engaged force.

Mr. Wang commended the initiative, noting that alumni networks form an essential bridge between nations. He expressed confidence that the association would deepen people-to-people ties and enhance mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation.

The launch also marked the formal appointment of the Association’s inaugural leadership team:

Colonel Kitione Tuinaosara — Interim President

Lieutenant Colonel Eroni Duaibe — Interim General Secretary

Their appointments emphasizes the RFMF’s intention to build a structured, active, and forward-looking alumni body that can harness the collective experience of its members for institutional development.

The creation of the RFMF–China Alumni Association stands as a testament to the expanding opportunities for education and international engagement available to Fijian military personnel. With alumni serving across various disciplines—from strategic studies and defence diplomacy to engineering, medicine, and peacekeeping—the Association is expected to play a key role in supporting career development, enhancing professional standards, and fostering enduring partnerships.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment by both sides to continue supporting training exchanges, educational programs, and cooperative initiatives that contribute to the shared vision of strengthening the RFMF’s capabilities and promoting mutual understanding between Fiji and China.
