The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) today, commemorated Remembrance Day—a solemn occasion observed annually on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, marking the ceasefire that ended World War I and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The day began with a Commemoration Service held at the RFMF Naval Headquarters, Stanley Brown, Walu Bay, where fallen sailors were remembered through a wreath-laying ceremony. In attendance were the Commander RFMF, Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, senior RFMF officers, and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
Commemorations continued with a march through Suva City by RFMF veterans and serving personnel, culminating at the National War Memorial Site in Nasese.
The Acting President of the Republic of Fiji and Chief Justice, His Lordship Salesi Temo, officiated the main Remembrance Day ceremony later in the day. A moment of silence was observed, followed by the laying of wreaths by His Lordship, members of the Diplomatic Corps, ex-servicemen representatives, and members of the disciplined forces.
The day’s commemorations concluded at the Peace Garden, CWM Hospital, where participants once again paid tribute to those who gave their lives in the service of peace.
