he Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Honourable Pio Tikoduadua and the Commander Joint Task Force Command, Brigadier General Manoa Gadai, have successfully concluded their official visit to the Headquarters of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in Sinai, Egypt. The visit reaffirmed Fijiโ€™s enduring commitment to international peacekeeping and strengthened its bilateral ties with the MFO.
As part of the visit, the delegation held bilateral meetings with the MFO Director General, Ms. Elizabeth Dibble and the MFO Force Commander, Major General Michael Garraway. These high-level engagements underscored Fijiโ€™s unwavering support to the MFO mission and its vital role in upholding peace and stability in the Sinai Peninsula.
The visit was also timely, as the MFO Director General is scheduled to visit Fiji from the 10th to 12th of May 2025. The courtesy call by the Honourable Minister was both fitting and significant in further enhancing this enduring partnership.
During discussions, the Honourable Minister acknowledged the evolving complexities of the regional security environment and emphasized the indispensable role of disciplined, impartial, and professional peacekeepers. He reiterated that Fijiโ€™s long-standing contributions to the MFO mission reflect the nationโ€™s deep-rooted commitment to global peace and security which is an conerstone of Fijiโ€™s foreign and defence policy.
In response, both the MFO Director General and Force Commander Major General Garraway extended their sincere appreciation to the Fijian troops for their dedication, professionalism, and continued sacrifice. Despite being a small nation, Fijiโ€™s contributions have had a meaningful impact in the Sinai which is bordered with Istael & Gaza.
During the meeting, the Honourable Minister reiterated Fijiโ€™s readiness to further strengthen its role with the MFO, particularly through continued engagement in Multinational Force platforms like the MFO, enhanced regional cooperation and steadfast commitment to democratic values and principles. Our nation will continue to “punch above its weight” to support the cause of international peace, safety, security and prosperity, not only for the people of the Middle East but for all of humanity.
