November 23, 2024The Lead Systems Leadership Course, launched by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) with the support of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), is a pivotal step in fostering future-ready leaders. As part of the broader Veiliutaki Framework, this course equips leaders with the skills to thrive in interconnected systems, drive continuous improvement, and build collaborative networks. Officially opened by Lieutenant Colonel Eroni Duaibe, the course emphasizes the importance of good leadership in ensuring the RFMF remains a professional and resilient force. Lt Col Duaibe highlighted that effective leadership extends beyond managing tasks to inspiring and guiding teams toward shared objectives, fostering both trust and cohesion.
Designed for leaders transitioning to roles where they manage other team leaders, the course focuses on enhancing self-awareness, systems thinking, collaborative networking, coaching, and strategic communication. Participants learn to embrace continuous improvement, value fit-for-purpose systems, and translate organizational goals into actionable concepts. This targeted approach ensures leaders are not only operationally capable but also visionary, with the ability to guide their teams effectively within dynamic environments.
A key feature of the course is its emphasis on partnerships, highlighted by the inclusion of two representatives from the iTaukei Affairs Board. This reflects the RFMF’s ongoing collaboration with the Great Council of Chiefs, promoting mutual understanding and strengthening institutional ties across Fiji. This inter-agency participation highlights the course’s broader goal of fostering cohesive and collaborative leadership that transcends organizational boundaries, ensuring the smooth functioning of systems vital to national and regional development.
As the course progresses, participants engage in practical exercises and shared learning experiences designed to transform traditional approaches to leadership.
The skills and relationships cultivated are expected to have lasting impacts, enabling the RFMF and its collaborators to build a resilient leadership cadre. Through the Veiliutaki Framework, the RFMF is not only preparing leaders to excel in their roles but also laying the foundation for a more adaptive and cohesive organization equipped to navigate the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world.
