April 22, 2025Fijiโs Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Honourable Pio Tikoduadua, accompanied by the Commander Joint Task Force Command, Brigadier General Manoa Gadai, concluded a successful visit to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) at Camp Ziouani in the Golan Heights.
This high-level visit reaffirmed Fijiโs enduring commitment to international peace and security which provided an opportunity to engage directly with UNDOF leadership on key operational matters and peacekeeping priorities whilst on official visit to 1st Fiji Infantry Regiment (1FIR), Fiji Batt 11 serving in the Golan Heights.
A significant highlight of the visit was the Hon Ministerโs meeting with UNDOF Acting Head of Mission and Chief Misssion Support, Mr. Amedeo Micelli with the presence of the new Deputy Force Commander, Brigadier General Eamon Patrick Lenaghan from Australia and Chief of Staff, Colonel William Nortey.
The discussions focused on strengthening Fijiโs logistical and operational footprint in the region, notably addressing the critical arrangements for the shipment of 7 Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles from Blackrock Camp in Fiji to Camp Ziouani, an initiative that will greatly enhance force protection and mobility on the ground.
The Honourable Minister Tikoduadua and Brigadier General Gadai also joined the UNDOF Easter Resurrection Sunday Church Service at Camp Ziouani, which was graced by the presence of Brigadier General Lenaghan. The service brought together military personnel for a moment of unity, spiritual reflection, and renewal amidst ongoing operational duties.
Fiji continues to enhance its peacekeeping footprint by maintaining strong partnerships and proactive dialogue with UN mission leadership. The Hon. Ministerโs visit has laid the foundation for deeper engagement, improved logistical coordination, troops welfare and operational effectiveness in theatre.
The visit of Hon. Tikoduadua and Brigadier General Gadai reflects Fijiโs leadership in global peacekeeping.
