STRATEGIC PLAN
The RFMF strategic Plan is focused on enhancing and developing our capabilities to enable the institution to carry out our paramount responsibility as determined by the Interim Government; “The Force shall be charged with the defence of Fiji, with the maintenance of order and with such duties as may from time to time be defined by the Minister”.
The strategic plan of the Force channels the focus of our efforts to achieving intended goals.
* Vision. We want to be “A smart military force that enhances its capabilities beyond its size through professionalism, resourcefulness, knowledge and skills, leadership, discipline and adherence to its ethos and values”
* Mission. The RFMF Mission is to enhance the security of the Fiji Islands and protect its people and interest in peace, in crisis and in conflict.
* Ethos. Our enduring ethos is based on truthfulness, fairness, and transparency interpreted as “Na Dina, Dodonu kei na Savasava”.
* Values. The RFMF is a value based institution that defines acceptable standards which govern the behaviour of individuals within our organisation. These common norms of behaviour support the achievement of our mission and goals. It is important that we constantly communicate our values and confront contradictory behaviour. Our values are:
o The will to win;
o Dedication to duty;
o Integrity;
o Teamwork;
o Courage; and
o Family
The goals for the strategic plan from 2008 - 2012 are:
o Maintaining a war fighting capability;
o Crisis management and response;
o Protection of our EEZ resources;
o Contribute to regional and world peace;
o Contribute to nation building;
o Improvement of the RFMF through modernization;
o Develop military doctrine;
o Human resource development;
o Affordability; and
o Domestic environment.
The above strategic objectives are holistic, and achievable. The desired outcome is to enhance and develop our capabilities to enable RFMF to effectively and efficiently discharge its national responsibility.
We are to adopt the following steps to ensure success:
o Seek Interim Government guidance;
o Utilize defence arrangement with friendly allies;
o Initiate audit;
o Introduce monitoring and review system on progress;
o Practice good governance
o Observe effective and accountable Leadership: and
o Maximise management effectiveness.
